ARTIST PROFILE
Eric Budovitch’s formal education began without studio
intentions at McGill
University where he
studied Art History, focusing on the works of 17th century.
When he turned to producing art, he began by enrolling in a
traditional French
Academy known for its
emphasis on meticulous measuring. Moving
from that system to a more expansive one he earned, with scholarship, a Masters
of Fine Arts from the New York
Academy. While in New York he was
concurrently enrolled at the Art Student’s League in order to study with
colourist Nelson Shanks. The next summer
he apprenticed with Odd Nerdrum, a Norwegian figurative painter.
Eric has been living and working in Toronto
where he has taught at the Avenue
Road Arts
School, shown at the Loch
Gallery and currently operates a team building business focused on bringing art
into the office.
He was a recipient of a Greenshields Foundation Scholarship for
work in figurative art, and has participated in the Kingston Portrait Prize in Kingston Ontario.
His work is represented in the collection of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.
